How to Install Windows 10

While the Windows 10 upgrade process has gone fine for most Windows 7 and 8 users, it has created problems for some users. Upgrading from one version of Windows to another is hardly a great idea. Files left behind by previous operating systems can often cause problems, such as being modified by other applications. How to Install Windows 10

Therefore, the general suggestion for installing a newer version of Windows is to install a ‘clean’ one. Re-formatting your hard drive before installing Windows gives you a ‘factory fresh’ PC – you’ll need to reinstall your applications and copy your documents again to reinstall although there’s a problem doing this with Windows 10.

First, anyone who upgrades from Windows 7 or 8 will not have a Windows 10 installed disk – the upgrade comes with a download.

Second, Windows 10 Upgrade does not provide a product key, so there is no way to activate it after a clean install. Fortunately, there is a way around this.

As long as you qualify for the free Windows 10 upgrade, it should be activated automatically once you install the upgrade. A product key will be created for your PC and saved by Microsoft. You will not see this product key, but it is tied to your PC hardware. So once you install and activate the upgraded version of Windows 10, you can wipe your PC and reinstall the operating system from scratch. Since the hardware did not change after the last activation, Windows 10 should be reactivated successfully after that.  How to Install Windows 10

Before you start! Back up any documents on the drive you are going to use for Windows 10 (usually C: drive). Make sure you have the required serial number for the applications you need to reinstall later. It is also worthwhile to download any driver you may need for Windows 10 before you start. This is very important for your PC’s network or Wi-Fi adapter, which may not work with Windows 10’s own drivers after a clean install.

You will not be able to perform a clean installation of Windows 10 until the upgrade has been installed and the operating system has been activated. When this is done, make sure that Windows 10 is enabled by going to Settings> Updates & Security> Activation. Look to the right of the window and see your activation: Windows is activated. If you do not see this, you should not go ahead and wait until Windows 10 is activated.

You also need to know which version of Windows 10 you are using so that you can download the same version. The version of Windows 10 you found in the window that opened in the first step – in our example Windows 10 Pro.

Next, search for ‘Systems’ and choose the first option to see if you’re using a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows. Locate the downloaded Media Creation Tool file in the Downloads folder and double-click to run it.

When the Windows 10 Setup window appears, select Create installation media for another PC option and click the Next button.

When the download is complete, plug in your USB flash drive or insert a blank DVD into your PC’s DVD drive. Locate the downloaded Media Creation Tool file in your Downloads folder and double-click to run it.

When the Windows 10 Setup window appears, select Create installation media for another PC option and click the Next button. How to Install Windows 10

On the next screen, choose the language, version, and architecture (32-bit or 64-bit) to match your current version of Windows 10. Choose one of the N versions – it lacks the Windows Media Player. Click Next to continue

Windows 10 Installation – Select the device you are going to use for an ISO file to burn a USB flash drive or DVD. Click Next. Select a USB flash drive or a folder on your PC to store Windows 10 setup files. Click Next and 4GB download will begin.

If you created a DVD ISO file, you will now need to burn the file to DVD to boot your PC. Otherwise, you can boot using a USB flash drive.

After you boot your PC using a Windows 10 DVD or USB flash drive, select the ‘Install Now’ option and then skip the product key request to activate Windows. As long as you have already upgraded this PC to Windows 10, you will not need any product key.

When prompted, choose the Custom: Install Windows only (Advanced) option. This will delete everything on your existing Windows 10 drive (usually C:), so make sure you have backed up what you want to keep before doing anything else.

Select the partition on the hard drive you want to launch Windows 10 on. It should already be labelled as Windows 7, 8 or 10, but it should also be the largest partition on the list. If you are not sure which partition to use, seek help before proceeding further.

If you are happy to continue, click the Format option and click OK in the warning dialog box that appears. When the drive format is completed, click Next.  How to Install Windows 10How to Install Windows 10

The Windows 10 installation will begin now. When it’s almost done, you’ll be asked for a product key again, so click this later option at the bottom of the screen and finish the rest of the setup.

Once Windows 10 is installed, repeat step 1 to check if it is enabled – you may need to click the Activate button. Since activation requires Internet access, you will also need to install the necessary drivers for your PC’s network or Wi-Fi adapter.

If the activation does not end successfully, you need to contact Microsoft, explain what happened and ask for an activation code. This is inconvenient but should be straightforward as long as your previous Windows 10 installation was active. 0 0 0
