Best SNES Emulators for Android

Here is a short list of SNES Emulators for Android. Try them out and enjoy.

Joe Hind

Joe Hind is known as the ‘Ape Man’ around these parts. He is in Android Authority since September 2012. Previously, Joe was part of the US military and attended the College for Video Game Design and Development. He also enjoys doing yard work for some reason or the other.

Emulators are an important part of Android’s past. The emulator allowed gamers to play their favorite retro titles on mobile. It provided hours of entertainment for not that much money. Thankfully, there are a decent number of really cool SNES emulators available for replaying classics like Chrono Trigger, Super Mario World, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Super Nintendo emulators have plateaued a bit. These are not only good but also extremely stable.

ClassicBoy

Price: Free / $3.99

ClassicBoy is one of the great old emulators. It hasn’t seen any updates since 2014, so it is not recommended unless the others on the list work for you. It is a combo emulator with PlayStation, N64, Game Boy Advance, SNES, and a few others. SNES support is quite good and everything worked well in our testing. It finally started receiving updates again in August 2020, so we are expecting it to return to its former glory in due course.

JohnNess

Price: Free / Up to $4.49

John NESS is a SNES and NES emulator from John Emulators. It replaces the very popular John SNES and John NES apps. It works surprisingly well for both systems. You also get hardware controller support with cheats, good rendering quality, high compatibility, save states, customizable digital controls, turbo buttons, fast forward and slow down, and even cloud storage support. However, those who have already purchased the John SNES or John NES (or both) will have to purchase the app a second time, and this is annoying to some. In any case, it is the current champion of the best SNES emulators for Android list. Thankfully, the app is also free with ads if you want to go that route.

RetroArch

Price: Free

RetroArch is a unique all-in-one emulator. It has support for a wide range of systems through the Liberto Core. The SNES is one of them. You just download and install the core you want and you are ready to race. It includes most of the usual stuff like save and load states, customizable controls, and cheat codes. It also played every game we tested without any problems. The only downside is the learning curve. This one is rather steep. However, once you learn how it works, you can use RetroArch for the SNES as well as many game consoles, so you only have to learn it once.

Snes9x EX+

Price: Free

Snes9x EX+ has been around for a long time. It has been one of the best SNES emulators ever since its release. It’s open source and has the basic features you’ll find in most SNES emulators. This includes save/load states, on-screen controls, support for .smc, .sfc, and zip files, and support for gamepads. It feels a bit old school but works well on every device. It is also completely free with no in-app purchases. This is considering how great the other emulators from this developer are.

SuperRetro16

Price: Free

SuperRetro16 is known by many names. However, it has always been one of the most popular SNES emulators out there. It also boasts cloud storage support, support for a variety of controllers, and the usual fair ones like save/load states, fast forward, and more. It also includes a variety of visual enhancements that try to make the game a little smoother. Lastly, you can make a backup of your saved and game files on Google Drive so that you have them available just in case. The only issue we had was with Super Mario RPG where we had an audio stutter on Super Mario RPG. SuperRetro16 was removed from Google Play in mid-2019 for some sort of infringement. It’s back now, but some people are annoyed they’ll have to pay for it a second time. Bad conditions aside, it’s still a good emulator with a lot of features. 0 0 0.
